Bettye Wimley Obituary

Ms. Bettye Jean Beed Wimley, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend whose legacy of faith, service, and love will forever be cherished.

Born on July 20, 1936, to Roger Beed Sr. and Ethel Beed, Bettye was raised in Mandeville, Arkansas, where she attended Douglas School and later graduated as Valedictorian of the Booker T. Washington High School Class of 1954. Her brilliance and determination led her into a lifelong career in nursing, where she served with compassion for over 50 years, including time at the Lone Star Ammunition Plant.

Bettye was baptized at an early age and united with Starks Hill Baptist Church, continuing her spiritual journey through the merger with Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church. In her later years, she relocated to Plano, Texas, and became a devoted member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, remaining faithful until her health declined.

A proud 33rd Degree member of the Order of Eastern Star, Bettye was also a founding member of the Mandeville Community Action Council and a cherished part of the Douglass “Divas” Seniors. Known affectionately as “Grandma Bettye,” she found joy in cooking and sharing meals that brought comfort and connection to all who gathered around her table.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Roger Beed Sr. and Ethel Beed; her sisters Hazel Arch, Helen Armstrong, and Emma Beed; her brother Roger Beed Jr.; and her beloved son Clifton Johnson.

She leaves behind a legacy of love and strength in her children: Karen Johnson (Richard) of Little Elm, TX, and Craig Johnson of Frisco, TX; her sister Clotel Wong of Los Angeles, CA; sister-in-law Ledell Beed of Texarkana, AR; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended family who will carry her memory forward with pride and affection.

Ms. Bettye Jean Beed Wimley’s life was a testament to faith, excellence, and unwavering love. Her light will continue to shine in the hearts of all who knew her.
