Lee Edward Freeman Jr., beloved husband, father, brother, and servant of God, entered his eternal rest on August 1, 2025, in Frisco, Texas. He was born on July 23, 1969, in Kansas City, Kansas, to Lee Edward Freeman Sr. and Lenora M. Freeman.
On July 22, 2000, in Kansas City, Missouri, Lee married the love of his life, LaTrice M. Freeman. Their marriage was a true partnership of 25 years, marked by deep love, mutual respect, and a shared dedication to family, faith, and service.
For more than 35 years, Lee faithfully served as a choir director and praise and worship leader in Kansas City, Missouri; Kansas City, Kansas; Irving, Texas; Plano, Texas; and Houston, Texas. Officially ordained in 1993 at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Kansas City, Missouri, he poured his heart into music ministry — lifting voices and spirits in worship.
Lee’s musical influence was far-reaching. He ministered music at the annual Martin Luther King Jr. celebrations and hosted the annual citywide gospel choir in Kansas City, Missouri. He also led gospel concerts for many years, welcoming gifted guest artists such as Dorinda Clark-Cole of The Clark Sisters, vocalist Leann Faine, and Kim McFarland. His extraordinary ability to lead worship was matched only by the sincerity of his devotion to Christ.
Beyond music, Lee was a licensed cosmetologist for 18 years and the proud owner of JLaRoi Hair Design, a high-end luxury salon in Dallas, Texas. His artistic touch and attention to detail extended from the stage to the salon, where he built relationships and made people feel beautiful inside and out.
Lee was preceded in death by his father, Lee Edward Freeman Sr., and his brother, LeRoy Eugene Freeman.
He is survived by his loving wife, LaTrice M. Freeman; his son, Joshua LaRoi Freeman; his mother, Lenora M. Freeman; sister, Lisa Freeman; mother-in-law, Judith Jones; father-in-law, Warren Jones; sister-in-law, Toni Braden; nieces and nephews, Tempest Pierce (Dralan Pierce), Erikka Braden, and Jordan Grant; great-nephews, Eli, Zion, and Josiah; aunts, uncles, cousins, and a host of other relatives and friends from Kansas City, Missouri; Kansas City, Kansas; and Dallas, Texas.
Lee’s life was one of service, generosity, and joy. His love for Christ shone brightly through every song he sang, every choir he led, and every life he touched. His personality was unforgettable — warm, encouraging, and filled with the kind of humor and compassion that left an imprint on all who knew him.
