Monica Smith Obituary

Monica Ann Smith, beloved daughter, mother, sister, and friend, entered eternal rest leaving behind a legacy of love, joy, and faith.

Born in Cleveland Ohio to the late Leavonia and Henry Smith Jr., Monica was baptized at an early age and nurtured her spiritual foundation at Open Door Baptist Church. She graduated from Erieview Catholic High School in May of 1981 and went on to attend Ohio University in Athens, Ohio, where she studied Communications.

Monica’s life was marked by her radiant smile and her gift for connecting with others. She loved meeting new friends and cherished the bonds she formed throughout her journey. Her passions included music, traveling, and shopping.  She was deeply committed to living a healthy lifestyle. Among her many joys, her admiration for the artistry of Prince remained a constant source of inspiration.

Above all, Monica’s greatest blessing was becoming a mother. Giving birth to and raising her beautiful daughter, Chanel Carr, was the center of her world and the role she treasured most.

Later in life, Monica joined Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church and One Community in Plano, Texas, where she continued to grow in her faith and service.

Monica is survived by her devoted daughter, Chanel Carr; her sister, Pamela Smith; four loving aunts and one uncle, Essie Mae Adams, Ossie Torres, Earline Lynch, Demerious Hooks and Eliza Lynch; along with a host of cousins and dear friends who will forever cherish her memory.

Monica’s life was a testament to joy, resilience, and love. She will be remembered for her warmth, her laughter, and the way she uplifted those around her. Services will be livestreamed via https://www.smbcplano.org
